PHINMA Properties breathes Bagong Buhay in Quezon City

January 16, 2012

PHINMA Properties, the country's leading developer in mid-rise condominium communities, is not only committed to uplifting the lives of Filipinos by building affordable and quality homes, but by also improving the quality of life in communities near its residential developments. PHINMA Properties is driven by an underlying philosophy for social impact and contribution by developing sensible communities where family life is fostered and neighborly relationships are formed. Dubbed Bagong Buhay, it is the corporate social responsibility program of PHINMA Properties.

When PHINMA Properties developed Flora Vista in Quezon City, there was a need to enhance the level of potential Grade 1 pupils for academic qualification through the recommendation of Kagabay.

Kagabay, a non-government organization that addresses women empowerment and poverty reduction, tapped PHINMA Properties to build a small school for the purpose of academic preparation. Kagabay President, Marie Del Rosario, with the help of her team, Executive Director, Suzette P. Pido, and Area Development Manager, Badette B. Lingo, conducted an English literacy program at Peacock Street in Fairview, Quezon City. The Program selects pupils between five and six years old who need proper education to qualify for Grade 1. 66 out of 80 pupils in the area qualified for the program based on their literacy levels.

Through Bagong Buhay, PHINMA Foundation Inc. (PFI) and PHINMA Properties financed and helped build a modest one-classroom kindergarten school at this community. As builders of the future, Bagong Buhay realized that building this structure is a significant way to make city living easier for a larger community.

To achieve this, Bagong Buhay upcycled construction materials used in Flora Vista, and collected paints donated by Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc. Last Christmas, volunteers from PHINMA H.E.R.O. (which stands for "Helpful Employees Responsible for Others") Network, PHINMA Properties, Toon City, and Flora Vista operations department, and skilled workers from the Upper Nawasa community, helped build the kindergarten. Mariposa Foundation also donated funds for the school furniture. The school officially opened this January in time for the first batch of students to apply for Grade 1 this coming June.

Hinged on construction and land development, PHINMA Properties maintains a competent role in their host community by offering a better alternative for sustainable development. Named after St. Marie Eugenie de Jesus, founder of the Religious of the Assumption, it will provide children access to Early Child Care and Development (ECCD). The learning program is complemented with a feeding program to improve overall performance. The necessary school supplies, books, uniform and footwear are properly equip the students for class.

The Bagong Buhay program is well integrated into PHINMA Properties core business of building homes and wholesome communities. Bannered by its slogan "City Living Made Easy", PHINMA Properties is a contributor to nation-building. For more information, visit www.phinmaproperties.com or call 535-6800 or 0917-535-6800.
